Wind Testing of Commercial Roofing Systems

Fri, 6 May 2005

Wind Effects on Commercial Roofs

Commercial and industrial buildings with single ply roofs react differently to wind effects than conventional built-up roofs. For building owners and management companies, understanding the science behind roofing types is extremely valuable. The best insurance claim is no insurance claim at all. Many insurance claims related to commercial roofs are caused by wind damage. There has been little research concerning the wind performance of the single ply roofs which are often installed on low-slope surfaces.

Single Ply Roofing Systems

Many commercial roofs have virtually flat profiles and low parapets, are especially susceptible to low pressure effects which can be generated by high wind conditions. The ability to properly understand these effects can aid in the correct choice of roof system for a particular building. At Charter Roofing & Waterproofing, we take these issues seriously. Understanding the effects of wind on a single ply roofing system can lead to the peace of mind that the roofing system on your building will be reliable in the next test delivered by hurricane or any other high wind weather event.
